Ahar Cenotaphs are the shining examples showcasing the courage and valor of the various heirs of the Mewar Kingdom. People belonging to the Mewari Descendents and others visit here to pay homage to the great rulers. Ahar houses 19 cenotaphs of the great kings, who were cremated here. These memorial monuments raised on big platforms have striking columns that are sheltered by arched roofs. 

The roof architraves are embellished with ornamentations resembling the 15th-century temples. Here on the Large columns, you will find an image of Lord Shiva and a figure imitating Maharana with his 'Satis' (wife of Maharana who immolated in his cremation flames).

The cenotaph dedicated to Maharana Amar Singh, son of the Great Maharana Pratap is captivating. The other cenotaphs here belong to Maharana Sangram Singh, Swaroop Singh, Maharana Shambhu Singh, Maharana Fateh Singh, Bhupal Singh, Bhagwat Singh Mewar, and Maharana Sajjan Singh. Constructed from marble, these Cenotaphs possess the finest carvings. Another attraction is the cenotaph of Maharana Sangram Singh which has fifty-six pillars on its porch. Maharana Sangram Singh was cremated here with his twenty-one wives in the year 1734.

These amazing cenotaphs had featured in various Hollywood Movies. Arvind Singh Mewar took it upon him to reinstate the cenotaphs of his ancestors in the late 1990s.

History


Built over 400 years ago, Ahar Cenotaphs, also known as the royal cremation ground is a legacy of the Mewar Kingdom. Nineteen rulers of the Mewar dynasty have been cremated in this historical ground.

The last cenotaph was constructed in 2004 for the cremation of Maharana Bhagwat Singh. The Ahar Cenotaphs Udaipur feature on the list of every tourist because of its glorious history connecting to the Mewar dynasty. Various Hollywood directors chose this place to be featured in their movies due to its marvelousness.

In order to restore the legacy of ancestors of the Mewar dynasty, Arvind Singh Mewar carried out the restoration work in the late 1990s. Multiple programs were organized to reinstate its past glory. Ahar Archaeological museum was constructed in the series showcasing various aspects of the great Mewar Kingdom. The Museum is home to ancient artifacts, some of which are from the 10th century.

Great service and friendly team

Our Rajasthan trip was very unorganized and from day 1 we need to argue for each committed hotel and details. Driver and hotel were not informed in advance and we need to pay 12000/- for the forceful event at the hotel which was never informed to us.
