History
Dost Mohammad Khan, an Afghan commander, constructed Islamnagar Fort in 1715. However, the remnants of the palaces may still be found on the site. For a brief time, Islamnagar served as the capital of the princely state of the Bhopal Empire. The settlement of Islamnagar was once known as Jagadishpur. The Rajput chieftains of the area created and dominated this town. In the early 18th century, Dost Mohammad Khan conquered the monument site. Islamnagar, or "city of Islam," was his name for it. Dost Mohammad founded the princely state of Bhopal and named Islamnagar as his first capital.
