The museum is divided into four sections - the armory, the display of arts and crafts, the archaeological area, and the historical section. If you know a little bit about the history of Jodhpur then you would already know that the royals were fierce warriors, this museum displays quite a bit of its mighty military history. 

You will be seeing a beautiful range of antiques carefully preserved, battleships, and military plane models are also displayed here. The stuffed animals that are showcased, portray the indigenous fauna of the Jodhpur region, children find this very amusing and interesting. The range of various exhibits dates back to almost the 6th century AD.

History


The Sardar Government Museum of Jodhpur was built by Maharaja Umaid Singhji in 1909 and was opened to the public in the year 1936. The museum has an interesting compilation of antique artifacts that displays the rich history of the Jodhpur region. The brilliant architecture of the place is due to the genius mind of Henry Vaughan Lanchester, he was an Edwardian architect of immense repute.

The museum is host to a splendid range of collectibles from the past that includes ancient arts and crafts, textile fabrics, miniature portraits, and weapons that were used by the royals during ancient times. The museum also displays images of famous Jain Tirthankars. Visitors eagerly wait to have a view of the stuffed animals and birds which are displayed in glass cases. It also houses antique 400 sculptures of stone, thousands of miniature paintings, 10 ancient inscriptions, about a dozen attractive terracotta.

Henry Vaughan Lanchester is the chief architect of the Sardar Government Museum. The museum is perfectly divided into a total of four sections to display various antique valuables. Throughout the day, it is filled with a curious and knowledgeable audience who are very eager to know more about the rich history of Jodhpur. The public library and zoo both are situated near the main museum building and can be very easily accessed by visitors. Being in the center of Umaid Bagh, the museum is surrounded by lush green gardens with a variety of beautiful flowers.

Great service and friendly team

Our Rajasthan trip was very unorganized and from day 1 we need to argue for each committed hotel and details. Driver and hotel were not informed in advance and we need to pay 12000/- for the forceful event at the hotel which was never informed to us.
