History
Shaukat Mahal was created as a wedding present for Sikander Jehan Begum in the 1830s. She is Bhopal's first full-fledged female ruler. The royal building Shaukat Mahal is located in the middle of the walled city, near the entrance to the Chowk area. It is one of Bhopal's architectural marvels. It is a nineteenth-century palace created by a Frenchman descended from the Bourbon rulers.
