History
Behind the construction of this grand palace, the main motive was to employ the farmers of the Jodhpur. A saint cursed the prosperous Rathore rule of Jodhpur resulting in the drought for three years consecutively. After facing extreme starvation the farmers pleaded to the then ruler Umaid Singh for his assistance.
Umaid Singh ordered to start the construction of the Umaid Bhawan Palace to solve the problems of farmers by giving them employment. Henry Vaughan Lanchester, an architect was appointed to come up with a concept and design of the Palace. He designed the lines of New Delhi’s government complex along with the palace. The palace portrays the fusion of modern technologies as well as classical Indian features.
